“Lani, are you okay sweetie?” My mother asked handing me a glass of Lemonade.

“Yeah, I’m cool ma. Just thinking.” I said taking a sip.

“That bastard hasn’t tried contacting you has he,” She asked with a frown upon her light colored face. Her hazel eyes were slanted and slightly closed. She drew her lips into her mouth before sighing, “I’ve been so worried about you ever since you told me and your father what was going on.”

“I’m ok ma, seriously. I haven’t heard from him since that night,” I told her. It was the truth. I met with my landlord and told her what had happened between Miles and I. She felt so bad for me that she allowed me to move out and give her a month’s worth of rent. I have absolutely no idea what is going on with him. It’s like he’s vanished. I’m sure he’s probably moved back to his mother’s home. Because she lived out west, there was little to no chance of me running into him. That was a good thing because I needed to get him as far out of my mind as possible.

I wouldn’t lie and say I didn’t still think about him and the way things were before all the bullshit began, because I did. Sometimes I just hated the way things ended up. Why couldn’t he stay the same guy he was when I met him? What girl wouldn’t want to marry her high school sweetheart? I guess I had to take these lemons and make lemonade, because this was what my life has to come to.

“I just can’t believe you had to go through that alone. You could have come to your mama baby,” my mother said fanning her eyes. I loved this lady, I hated that I was putting her through this.

“The important thing is that I’m alright. I love you ma,” I said leaning over and hugging her.

“I love you too Ni-Ni. If he ever bothers you again, I’ll kill him myself.”

After convincing my mother that I was fine, she left for work. She was working night shift at the hospital as an RN. I was home alone and bored out of my mind. Trinity was out with Q and I had no idea where Damien was.

Speaking of Damien, I was currently missing him. We haven’t hung out too tough since the incident with Miles. That night we left Trini’s crib, he brought me straight home and left. I grabbed my iPhone and pressed the FaceTime button next to his name. I fixed my wild hair, while waiting for him to answer. He finally picked up after a few seconds.

“Wassup beautiful,” he said smiling into the camera.

“Hey boo, where you at,” I asked sitting indian-style in my queen sized bed.

“Out handling business. You look like you need company,” he said licking his lips while looking from the phone to the road. It was clear he was in traffic.

“I do,” I said biting my lip, “you wanna come keep me company?”

“You know I do.
